Course Overview

Most companies want to act on sustainability but struggle to move beyond isolated initiatives or compliance-driven efforts. The challenge is not a lack of ambition, but a lack of clarity on how sustainability connects across strategy, operations, design, marketing, and finance. This course is designed to make that challenge feel manageable. Over five self-paced weeks, you’ll learn how to identify what truly matters to your business, understand and measure carbon impacts, and apply sustainability principles across products, communication, and corporate strategy without adding unnecessary complexity.

The course is grounded in real-world experience from Dr. Janice Lao, who has spent over 20 years working with global organizations to embed sustainability into everyday business decisions. Rather than focusing on theory, the course emphasizes action: how to apply materiality insights, use carbon data to guide decisions, communicate sustainability credibly, and align sustainability goals with long-term financial value. You’ll also spend time on one of the most critical leadership challenges—positioning sustainability as a strategic imperative that resonates with executives, investors, and internal teams, and leads to measurable, durable impact.

Hear From Our Changemakers

"I honestly feel so grateful for this journey"

When I started, I actually didn’t even know what carbon accounting was, or how to properly present what a company has done. I had no clue how to market it in a way that isn’t just fluff, and I had no idea how to come up with strategies that actually align with a company’s materiality. Learning how to tie all of that together and pitch it to a bank in a way that really shows the business benefits was eye-opening for me. But I was always fascinated by what really goes into building a report like this from scratch. This course finally gave me a glimpse into what corporate sustainability work looks like behind the scenes. I' m super thankful to @Merrin Pearse, @Janice Lao, @Shark  for giving us this opportunity and making it all so accessible.

Swati Gupta, Energy Analyst @ Deloitte (India)

"A deeper understanding of the complexities of sustainability"

Each week, we tackled critical topics and assignments, including: Materiality and Double Materiality, Stakeholder Inclusion, Carbon Accounting, LCA Analysis & Sustainable Design, Sustainable Marketing, Sustainability Strategy. The experience culminated in a capstone project, where I created a presentation for a sustainability-linked loan application, giving me the opportunity to apply everything I’d learned to a real-world, finance-meets-impact scenario.

 "Rigorous yet practice-based"

I was nervous to invest in a professional development opportunity, but I knew it was the right decision—and now I’m so glad I did. It is  a rigorous yet practice-based program led by the incredible team of Dr. Janice L., Merrin Pearse, and Louise Lao. I’m proud to have earned this certification, but even more excited to apply these insights in the next chapter of my career. Transitioning from education to sustainability feels like a natural evolution—still working at the intersection of systems, impact, and people.
